I liked the bit where Kariya is afraid of snakes because it's been a long asf time since we had something like that. Then the show gets great again, in my opinion, when they go to Camelot, because we get some great moments. It was hard for me to care about any of the time periods because (1) I don't know anything about those historical figures and their history and (2) they failed to develop any of them properly, except for Joanna Dark, I guess.

The show just goes full "reset" fest, and the plot feels like stalling once again. The Raimon team came back, which destroyed even more of the tension, because it made the mystery of what happened, and what would happen, to Raimon's team and soccer, gone.

We got some development for Tsurugi's brother, but it didn't do anything for me because (1) it was another timeline's Tsurugi's brother and (2) it was just undone at the end.įrom here onwards, I just wasn't caring anymore all of the engagement episode 1 provided was gone. Then, we get to Tsurugi's brother arc, and I just stopped caring. It just seemed a little too fanfiction-ish to me. Besides, it felt forced to have Tenma and Endou meet each other at the same age.

Tenma going to Endou's time was sort of neat, but it felt like it didn't fit into the plot that well. All of the tension that was masterfully built up in the first couple episodes is lost, since we know (1) who was responsible for football being forgotten, and (2) They're no threat at all because they lost the very first match.įrom here onwards, it just gets worse and worse. But everything starts falling apart when Wonderbot shows up, because we've just been introduced to the villain team which will accompany us for the next 40 episodes, and they lose in the very first match. Alpha's appearence was specially memorable as well so was Fey's. It's probably one of my favorite sequences in the entire series. I also personally love the music that plays in the game when you're investigating Raimon College. Tenma arriving at school and slowly discovering that everybody forgot about soccer was actually unsettling, in a sense. The very beginning is by far my favorite part. Every time Raimon comes back from a time period, it feels like a reset, because they're going to do the same things they did last time, only in a slightly different way. The main problem I have with the season is the combination of how repetitive the story is, along with an immensely odd tonal clash.

We have a time travel plot where someone's existence could be erased or altered, historical figures in which most of them will eventually get a tragic end, (Nobunaga: dies at Honnoji, Jeanne d'arc: Burned at the stake, Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang: Both will die with their dreams unfulfilled as their kingdom is eventually conquered by Cao Cao's kingdom, Sakamoto Ryoma: assassinated, Okita Souji: was dying anyway, Tochan and Big: Meteor that will kill the dinosaurs will do them in somehow, King Arthur: killed by Mordred as the Knights of the Round Table falls apart.) childrens who were born with superpowers but will die before they reach 20 plus their powers cause them to be ostracized from society, prompting a wish to dominate the world before dying, an organization who will do whatever it takes to stop them even if they have to resort to altering the timeline so that they will be erased from existence and lastly a mother who dies giving birth to her son.īut other than that, all conflicts and problems will be solved if we just play some football/soccer :D While IEGO2 is much more light hearted, it still follows the tradition of having a pretty dark storyline (if you think about it deeply of course.) IE2 had aliens, depression over losing to said aliens, personality disorders, a meteor that can boost a person's abilities to the point that it could be severely lethal and the motive of the Big Bad is using childrens from an orphanage to wreck Japan until the government decides to use the meteor as a weapon of mass destruction because his soccer-loving son got killed over an accident with a politician's son. What is with Inazuma Eleven that every second installment of a trilogy ends up having dark themes
